General Provisions of the VIII International Piano Competition in Almaty

1The VIII International Piano Competition will take place in Almaty from November 8 to November 16, 2017. The founders of this competition are The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, The Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, The Music Agency "Ñlassica".

2. The participants at the age of 18 to 32 years inclusively can take part in the competition. The age of participants will be defined on November 8.

3. Laureates of the first premium of the previous  six competitions can not take part in current competition.

4. Participants must arrive in Almaty according to the dates indicated by the organizers of the Competition in the official invitation.

5.The accommodation for participants will be booked by Organizing Committee.

6.The Organizing committee of this competition provides free residence in hotels or in Kazakh families only for participants, who will be admitted to the second and third round of competition. 

7.Competitors who are admitted to the second round will be compensated with the amount of ($300) for their air ticket. Competitors are expected to provide the ticket and invoice in order to receive the refund.

8.  Participants, not admitted to the second and third round, as well as accompanying persons may stay in Almaty till the end of the competition at their own expense.

9. Participants of the second round, who will not get the final circle, can live in hotel till expiration of competition due to Organizing committee.

10. The conservatory will offer practicing facilities free of charge to all participants.

11. Foreign participants will be responsible for obtaining their passports and any necessary visas. They should apply at the nearest Kazakh Consulate upon receiving a formal invitation to the Competition.

12. The competition consist of three rounds: two solo recitals, chamber music and a final performance with orchestral accompaniment. All rounds will be open  to the public.

13. The order in which participants appear shall be determined by drawing lots, and will remain in effect until the end of the final round. 

14. If needed, the contestant may request the Organizing Committee to assign a second pianist for performing in the chamber part of the competition (the second pianist is provided by the staff of the Piano Department) 

15.Winners of the competition are required to perform in the closing concert of the Competition without financial compensation.

16. Participants of the Competition will not receive financial compensation for their appearances during the Competition, as well as they will not receive financial compensation for any use of recordings or video broadcasts of their appearances.

17. The organizers of the Competition will retain the rights to all audio and video recordings of the Competition proceedings, as well as the right to broadcast them.

18. The participant’s arrival  will be held on November 6-7, 2017.

19. The opening of the Competition and the drawing lots will be held on November 8, 2017, at 19.00.

20. The closing concert and awarding ceremony will take place on November 16, at 19.00.

21. The placed information on official web-site of competition (www.pianocompetition.kz) is correct at the moment of the publication. Thus the Organizing committee reserves the right to make any changes if it is required due to some circumstances.

                                                                                The application procedure:

1. The application form for participation has to be provided in Organizing committee  not later than September 25, 2017 online (on the website).

2. Confirmation on admission of candidates as Contest participants shall be sent to them by Organizing Committee no later than October 8, 2017.

The application must include:

  • a link to www.youtube.com to the unedited recorded video with the preliminary round program (a length of not less than 20 minutes);
  • a photocopy of the applicant’s passport or another official form of identification that confirms the applicant’s date of birth;
  • curriculum vitae, press reports on performing activity (if any);
  • certificate of musical education (copy);
  • photocopies of diplomas and awards from other competitions;
  • Color photos in a digital format with permit not less than 300 dpi, including one close up photo should be written on the back of the photographs;
  • a programme of performance at the Competition based on chronological principle with the indication of duration of each piece.
